Hornet 7th Finishes NTC 4th

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Cowden-Herrick got to the 3rd place game of the NTC 7th tournament, but fell to St. Elmo/Brownstown, 34-25.

It was a see-saw game on Thursday. Cowden-Herrick led after the 1st, 8-7. St. E/B counter punched in the 2nd with a 10-4 run to take the half-time lead, 17-12.

The Hornets won the 3rd, but trimmed the deficcit by just a point, 25-21. St. E/B had another run in them and finished strong, out-scoring the Hornets 9-4 down the stretch and claiming the bronze trophy by nine points.

Despite the loss, Nick Miller had a game-high 11 points, with three free throws. St. E/B's leading scorer was Aderman with nine points.

Cowden-Herrick had five more scorers, as opposed to St. E/B's other four scorers. But St. Elmo/Brownstown's other players each scored more than the Hornets.

Trace Smith and Eddie Clearwater had four, each, but Philpot had eight and Chandler and Karnes had six each.

A 5-point advantage at the free throw line helped St. E/B's cause.
