Tice wins Gnomecoming 5K

A pair of middle aged guys led the way gnome a week ago at the Strasburg Gnomecoming 5K Run. Grant Tice, age 41, of Sullivan was the overall winner (19:22.0) and 51 year-old Tony Garrett was 2nd (19:57.3).

A Gnomeadic group of 66 runners and one registered walker wandered across the 3.1 miles of Gnomeman's land.

The next two runners to finish were in their 20's, then came the teenagers. Gnometown favorites Jeremy Reel and Lance Montgomery were 3rd and 4th, respectively. Reel a high school distant standout was the age 20-29 winner (20:58.6) with 26 year-old Lance Montgomery right behind him (22:05).

Teens Tanner Clark (13) of Strasburg and Meredith Kull (13) of Effingham were 5th and 6th. Clark won the boys 13 and under group (23:15.8) and Kull was the overall women's winner (23:18.7) just 2.9 seconds behind Clark.

Brock Friese (35) of Greenville (23:29.8), the Men's 30-39 winner, Elijah Slifer (22) of Stewardson (23:48.2), Steven Kull (40) of Effingham (23:48.5), the 40-49 winner, and Jason Becker (18) of Strasburg (23:57.8), the 14-19 year-old winner, rounded out the Top 10.

Elizabeth Bowyer of Shelbyville (11) won the 13 and under women's group (26:31.8). Carolyn Reed of Strasburg (29) won the 20-29 women's group (27:17.2). Holly Steiling of Moweaqua (36) was 1st in the 30-39 women's group (25:11.3). Kristi Sabo of Teutopolis (43) was top in the women's 40-49 age group and just 13th overall (24:42.6). Sallie Fischer of Decatur (54) was 1st in the 50-59 women's age group (34:55.0).

The youngest runner was Cole Steiling of Moweaqua, age 7. He finished 36th out of 66 runners (36:39.3). The oldest runner was Mary Antonacci, age 67, finishing 54th (48:46.2). Otto Rincker of Strasburg (57) was a registered 5K walker and he finished in 51.47, a head of a eight runners.
