Shelby Legion extra-hits Piatt

Shelby County Legion came back from an early deficit to beat Piatt County on Thursday, 6-2.

Shelby missed opportunities early, but extra-base hits in the 4th-8th innings pushed them past Piatt for the win. Shelby only out-hit Piatt 7 to 6, but four of the Shelby hits were those extra base hits.

Tyler Hendryx was back from Jr. Legion and made another splash for the Sr.Legion team. He hit 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, driving in the first run and scoring the fifth run.

Piatt pitchers gave out five walks and hit two batters. They booted two balls and dropped a 3rd strike. Shelby had 16 base runners, 12 in scoring position. Piatt had 10 base runners, six in scoring position.

Piatt cashed in during the 3rd inning. Ben Helton, who won his last game, got the start for Shelby County. He held Piatt scoreless in the 1st and 2nd.

In the 3rd, Helton hit two batters in a row. A sacrifice moved two men in to scoring position with one out. A ground out scored a run and, with two outs, an RBI single made it 2-0 Piatt. Helton saw just four batters in the 4th, then took his bow.

Shelby finally got on the board. Hayden Cole drew a lead-off walk, but was forced out by Mike Baker. With two outs, Tyler Hendryx stepped up again with an RBI-double, 2-1. Shelbyville Slugger Luke Hatfield homered again and Gunner Theis had the other double.

Aaron White took the Shelby mound and only gave up a 1-out single. That left the door open for a lead change.

With one out, Gunner Theis doubled, Luke Hatfield walked and Andrew Hawkins hit into a fielder's choice. Cole was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Baker came through in the clutch with a 2-run single to give Shelby the lead, 3-2.
