Ram JV Fight, Back Despite Loss

SHELBYVILLE, IL. —

Shelby JV had the ground give way underneath them, hosting Sullivan on Tuesday. But the Rams didn't quit. They out-hit Sullivan 21 to 12, despite losing, 25-14.

"I am proud of my guys," said Ram JV coach Ryan Scott. "We walked 25 or so and were down, 17-0. In the 3rd, I challenged them to keep playing hard and we scored 14 runs before it was over."

The first two innings were a scoreless draw, then the Rams had control issues on the mound. They walked 16 batters (11 in a row) in the 3rd and hit one, while giving up two hits. Down 17-0, they had their work cut out for them.

In the home 3rd, Shelby responded. Josh Foster led off with a double, followed by a Quinton Reedy single.With one out Sheldon Meyer singled. With two outs, Dylan Patch single and Zach Brown, Darren Kennell, and Ryan Stenger smacked three consecutive doubles. Foster made it five in a row, his second double of the inning. Reedy singled again for the ninth hit of the inning.

The deficit was cut to 17-9, but Sullivan scored three more in the 4th. Shelby got two of those back, sending eight men to the plate, but leaving the bases loaded. Meyer doubled, Patch singled and with two outs, Kennell and Stenger singled, 20-11 Sully.

Sullivan scored three in the 5th, but Shelby scored four, sending nine men to the plate. Smith singled, Durbin walked, and Patch singled. With two outs, Kennell, Stenger, and Foster all singled. Shelby was down, 23-15.

In the 6th, Sullivan added two runs, but the Rams went down in order to end the game by the 10-run rule, 25-15.
