Another double play stopped the St. Anthony roll. Vonderheide caught a liner and threw to 1st. St. Anthony only had four base runners the rest of the game.
Shelby had the bases loaded in the 6th and two men in scoring position in the 8th, but Gardewine responded with strikeouts and a shortstop unassisted play.
In the 9th, Gardewine threw his 10th strikeout. Then four straight batters got hits. Trevor Moore singled. Baker singled. Vonderheide singled. With the bases loaded an one out, Keown singled in the go-ahead run, 3-2. A pop out to Williams at short and throw to the plate ended the Shelby 9th.
In the bottom of the 9th, Keown rang up the first two batters, both on 2-2 pitches. The next batter popped up, Keown squeezed it and Shelby got the win.

After the nail-biting opener, Shelby exploded for 22 runs, including a 10-run 2nd to crucify St. Anthony, 22-4.
Shelby pounded out 14 hits, including three doubles, while St. Anthony had just three hits. After Mike Baker gave up a 4-run 2nd as St. Anthony tied the game, 4-4, Ben Helton came in and shut St. Anthony down.
Alex Hoelscher started for St. Anthony, but a combination of nine hits, three walks and an error buried him under an avalanche of nine hits and 14 runs in just two long innings of work.
