Shelby had ducks on the pond early, Monday, but couldn't get them home. Jake Keown's curve ball was working and he held Neoga off the base paths until the 4th inning. Both teams then got busy. They traded big innings, but Shelby's was bigger and they won 8-4.

Shelbyville had runners at 2nd and 3rd in the 1st and 3rd innings and two men on in the 2nd. The Neoga starter, Walk,  was able to get out of those situations with strikeouts and ground balls and a couple of web gems from teammates on shots down the 1st and 3rd base lines, by Moore and Monroe.

Neoga only had on base runner heading into the 4th inning, via walk. In the 4th, Keown hit the first batter, Monroe, then Walk singled. Baker laid down a bunt and Keown couldn't field it cleanly. The bases were loaded with no outs.

Keown threw a strikeout, then walked DH Albin, forcing in a run. J. Baker singled in a run and Moore grounded out and sent M. Baker across. Another walk made it 4-0 Neoga, before Keown rang up the lead-off hitter to get out of the inning.

Shelby went down in order in the bottom of the inning and Neoga got one hit in the top of the 5th. Then the Rams got busy.

Eli Miller started the bottom of the 5th with a home run in right. Jake Keown singled and stole 2nd. Luke Hatfield doubled Keown home. Nate Standerfer then had the second of consecutive Ram RBI doubles.

Neoga made a pitching change. Neil Yockey laid down a sac bunt to move Standerfer to 3rd. With one out, Andrew Hawkins singled Standerfer in to knot the score, 4-4.

Garrett Manship walked, Luke McConnell lined a shot to the left fielder and Brett Peifer drew a walk. Miller came back up for the second time in the inning. After two balls, Neoga changed pitchers again.

Miller walked Keown got his second hit of the inning, a 2-run single for a 7-4 Ram lead. Keown went into the 6th and just gave up one walk.

In the 6th, Shelby got one more run, when Yockey led off reaching on an error. Hawkins hit a bloop single that was almost gotten in right. Manship singled and McConnell reached on another Neoga error. Yockey scored, 8-1.

Luke Hatfield came on in relief in the 7th for Shelby. Walk singled for the third time and Romack was hit by a pitch with two outs. Hatfield then rang up the last man to end the contest.

Shelbyville has started the season 5-0.
