JOHN CURTIS - Daily Union Sports Editor

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — The Cowden-Herrick Hornets (11-6) got revenge on Tuesday, getting even for a loss to Patoka back in November, with a 16-point win at home, 64-48.

The Hornets lost by 13, 59-46, in the first meeting and won by 16 on Tuesday, a 29-point turnaround. The Hornets scored 18 more points than in the first meeting and held Patoka to 11 fewer points. What a difference!

Since that early loss, the Hornets have averaged almost 60 points per game, 33 rebounds, and 11 steals.

C-H’s leading scorer, Luke Moore (18.1 ppg, 11.1 rpg), scored 18 points, Tuesday, +6 from the first meeting and grabbed a season-high 21 rebounds, +16 from the first contest.

What caught Patoka by surprise was sophomore Colton Burrus, who had averaged just 5.1 ppg, dropped 20 points on the Warriors. Burrus was 4-for-5 from 2-point range (80%) and 4-for-4 from beyond the arc (100%), to shoot 89% from the field. He also had one board and two steals.

The Hornets took an early lead with a 14-9 run on Tuesday, like in the first meeting. The difference came in the 2nd period.

In the first contest, Patoka opened up a 22-9 run to go up by nine at the break, 34-25. On Tuesday, the Hornets stayed in control with a 15-9 run for an 11-point lead at the break, 29-18. The 3rd period was a wash on Tuesday leaving the Hornets in charge heading into the 4th, 37-26.

The 4th was furious as the two teams combined for 49 points in 8:00. Patoka tried to charge their way back into the game with a 22-point period, but the Hornets wouldn’t be caught, scoring 27 points down the stretch.
