Rams Slap Down St. Teresa

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Shelbyville's starter Eli Miller threw a no-hitter through four innings and the Ram hit crew had a 9-3 lead when Miller left the game. They took two more innings to get the 10-run rule win, 13-3.

Shelby launched their first 4-run inning in the 1st. Miller sparked the rally with a lead-off single. Jake Keown doubled and Miller scored on a passed ball. Luke Hatfield launched a 1-0 pitch over the fence for a 2-run homer. Nate Standerfer reached on an dropped 3rd strike, went to 2nd on a passed ball and 3rd on a wild pitch. Neil Yockey grounded out and drove Standerfer in, 4-0.

The Rams added a run in the 2nd, when Brett Peifer led off with a double. Miller singled and a double steal put them both in scoring position. Keown hit a sac fly to right and scored Peifer, 5-1. In the bottom of the 4th, they led 5-2, when they launched their second 4-run rally.

With one out, Miller reached on an error. With two outs, Hatfield was walked and Standerfer hit an RBI-single. Andrew Hawkins reached on an error and Yockey hit a 2-run double, 9-3 Rams.   

Shelby added a pair of runs in the bottom of the 5th. Peifer walked with one out and Miller hit another single. Keown reached on an error. Peifer scored on a passed ball. Hatfield grounded out, but scored Miller, 11-3 Rams.

Shelby got two more runs in the bottom of the 6th to get the early ticket to the weekend. Hawkins walked. With one out, Garrett Manship walked. Luke McConnell then hit an RBI-single. Zach Williams walked. Up 12-3 and a runner on 3rd, Miller launched a ball to left for the walk-off, sacrifice fly.

Miller not only got the win, he was 3-for-3 at the plate. Hammering Luke Hatfield hit another home and drove in three runs. Neil Yockey was 1-for-4 with a double and three more RBIs.  Jake Keown was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Shelby knocked out nine hits.

Shelbyville (11-1, 2-0 Okaw) was to travel to Tolono on Monday.
