Olivia Herzog (OVHS ‘12) of Findlay, a perennial state track qualifier and 5-time state medalist, has racked up several scoring performances for the Northern Illinois University Huskie track team this season.
Most recently Herzog placed third at the Huskie Open in the shot put with a PR heave of 43 feet, 3.3 inches. She also placed 6th in the discus with a throw of 129 feet, 10 inches. She captured third in the discus at the Chicagoland Championships (136-0) and sixth in the shot put.
Herzog competed during the indoor season for NIU and recorded a third place finish in the shot put at the Jack Johnson Classic (40-4.8) and was fourth in the shot at Ball State (42-2).
Herzog was a state qualifier as a freshman (’09) in shot (38-2.5) and disc (121-5) and at state earned a 4th place medal in the shot (39-6). She was a sectional champion in the shot put as a sophomore (’10) and state qualifier in the discus (116-9.5). She earned a 3rd place medal at state (39-9) and 10th in the discus (115-01).
Herzog was a repeat sectional champ in the shot (40-11.75) as a junior (’11) and state qualifier in the discus (122-7). She went on to earn a 2nd place medal at state in the shot put (40-9.5), second only to perennial state champ Kelsey Card. Herzog was 3rd in the discus (135-06).
Despite surgery, she came back her senior year and qualified for state again in the shot (35-10) and the disc (125-9). She finished 11th in the shot (37-1.75) and earned another 4th place state medal in the discus (124-05).
In middle school, Herzog was a double state champ in 2007 in the shot (32-2) and discus (97-7).
