SS/W, BCCH Finish Looking Up

WINDSOR, IL —

Stew-Stras/Windsor and Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 8th grade basketball teams opened the NTC 8th grade tourney as the bottom seeds, #7 and #8, respectively. They ended the tourney still looking up at the rest of the conference.

Stew-Stras/Windsor did get a win in the consolation bracket and finished in 6th place, while BCCH did not get a win and tied with Neoga at the bottom of the barrel.

BCCH had to start out the tourney on Wednesday, playing the #1 seeded team, Altamont and Stew-Stras/Windsor had to open on Thursday, playing #2 seeded Sigel. BCCH lost, 35-11, and SS/W lost, 42-19.

Tabitha Endlsey led BCCH in the loss with three points, while Stone led Altamont with 14 points. Altamont had a 9-2 run to start the game. They got on track in the 2nd scoring eight points, but still fell back by 15 at the break, 23-10. BCCH was almost shutout in the 2nd half, being out-scored, 22-1.

SS/W suffered a 13-1 run at the hands of Sigel in the 1st period of their game. SS/W played competitive after that, being outscored by just 11 points in the remaining three quarters.

BCCH and Stew-Stras/Windsor were sent to the consolation bracket. BCCH played late Thursday and Stew-Stras/Windsor on Friday. 

BCCH played #4 Sacred Heart on Thursday and were beaten, 18-10. 

Sacred Heart's star was the difference in the game. Natalie Carie scored nine points in the 8-point win. The rest of the players on both teams scored no more than  two points, each. Sacred Heart out-scored BCCH 12-0 in the 1st half. In the 2nd half, BCCH out-scored Sacred Heart, 10-6.

 Stew-Stras/Windsor played a defensive game against #6 Neoga on Friday and won by just four free throws, 14-10.

Everett and Davis led SS/W with five points each, while Banning led Neoga with six points. Everett and Davis accounted for those four free throws, Everett one and Davis three.

SS/W led after the 1st, 5-3, and at the half, 9-5, the 4-point margin of victory. SS/W stretched their lead to five points in the 3rd, but Neoga shrunk it back to four by the closing bell.

Friday

Stew-Stras went to the consolation champion game against Sacred Heart on Saturday. Sacred Heart build an 8-point lead at the break, 17-9, then had a 10-2 run in the 3rd to establish a prohibitive lead, 27-11. SS/W out-scored Sacred Heart down the stretch, 5-2, cutting the final margin of defeat to 13 points.

Everett and Davis led the SS/W again with five and four points, respectively. Sacred Heart had two players in double figures. Carie had 13 points and Webster 10 points.
