---- — The Regional Champion Shelbyville Ram Softball Team (17-7) presented their team awards recently and officially wrapped up the 2013 season.
First Team All-State and 1st Team All-Conference pitcher Grace Moll, headed to the University of Arkansas next fall, captured three team awards. She earned the Pitching Award with a 12-4 record, throwing 212 strikeouts in 106 innings. Her ERA was just 0.99 with 0.83 walks/hits per innings pitched. She gave up just 15 earned runs in 106 innings and averaged 14 Ks per 7 innings pitched.
Moll also earned the Batting Average Award. She led the Ram hit crew in 9 hitting categories. She led the team with a .556 batting average, a .556 on base percentage and an .842 slugging percentage. She also led the team with 42 hits, 26 singles, nine double and 32 runs scored. She also led in fewest strikeouts. She struck out just four times in 83 at bats, striking out just once per every 20.75 at bats.
Impacting the offense and defense like she did, the senior leader was also voted to receive the Team MVP Award.
Pitcher and 1st baseman Abbie Watton, headed to Benedictine University next fall, brought home two awards. She earned the Golden Glove Award and the Varsity Sportsmanship Award.
Watton hit .352, with a .515 on base percentage and a .477 slugging percentage. She also was hit a team-high five times. And walked 14 times. Watton also went 6-4 as a pitcher, throwing 45 strikeouts in 54 innings with an ERA of 3.76.
Sophomore Jensen Cloe earned to awards that were somewhat related. Cloe was voted the Hardest Worker Award and the Most Improved Award.
Cloe settled into the lead-off spot and also finished the season as the catcher after one left the team and two more suffered injuries. Cloe hit .333. She drew 15 walks and posted a .427 on base percentage and a .466 slugging percentage. She drove in 16 runs and scored 19. She had six doubles, a triple and a home run in the regional championship win.
The other team award presented was the JV Sportsmanship Award, presented to Karlee Herzog.
In addition to the Team Awards it was announced that sophomore Madison Boone was selected to the 2nd Team All-Okaw Valley Conference and to the 3rd Team All-State.
Sophomore Madison Boone was the Ram slugger. Boone launched eight home runs and a team-high 18 extra-base hits, with eight doubles and two triples. Boone drove in a team-high 33 runs. She scored 31 runs, one less than Moll. She led the team in getting hit by a pitch (5 times).
Boone's slugging percentage was .824, with a batting average of .380 and an on base percentage of .441. Boone struck out only eight times in a team high 92 at bats. She struck out just once every 11.5 at bats.
