Madison Boone put a big notch in her gun belt on Thursday, throwing a no-hitter as she led the Shelbyville Lady Rams (8-5) over Vandalia in five innings, 10-0.
Boone walked six and struck out five, one in each inning, and had only one ball hit out of the infield. She does owe her teammates kudos for doing their job and playing good defense behind her, making ten put outs, while recording just two errors. Boone also helped her cause by hitting 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Maddie Holland led the hit crew, going 2-for-3 and driving in four runs, three when she whacked a 10-run rule home run in the top of the 5th. The Rams had seven hits total in five innings, received four walks and had two batters hit. Every Ram player reached base at least once.
The game was close until the 4th inning. Shelby went in order in the 1st, then took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd.
Rachel Fox walked With one out, Jensen Cloe walked. Fox had advanced to 2nd and 3rd on wild pitches. Torre Koontz grounded out, but drove Fox home.
Boone walked one batter in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd innings. Her shutout was challenged in the 3rd with a runner on 2nd and 3rd, thanks to a fielding error.
Boone threw out the next batter from the mound, Fox followed throwing out the following batter from in front of the plate. Boone then rang up the last batter.
In the top of the 4th, Brandy Smith was hit by a pitch with one out and she stole 2nd. Cloe walked again. Koontz then singled and drove in a run. With two outs, Holland singled her first run in and stole 2nd.
Courtney Williams , who hit two homers in her last game, singled. Kayla Brachbill singled and Madison Boone hit the fourth straight single with two outs, making it a 6-0 Ram lead.
