Boone Throws No Hitter

---- — Madison Boone put a big notch in her gun belt on Thursday, throwing a no-hitter as she led the Shelbyville Lady Rams (8-5) over Vandalia in five innings, 10-0.

Boone walked six and struck out five, one in each inning, and had only one ball hit out of the infield. She does owe her teammates kudos for doing their job and playing good defense behind her, making ten put outs, while recording just two errors. Boone also helped her cause by hitting 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Maddie Holland led the hit crew, going 2-for-3 and driving in four runs, three when she whacked a 10-run rule home run in the top of the 5th. The Rams had seven hits total in five innings, received four walks and had two batters hit. Every Ram player reached base at least once.

The game was close until the 4th inning. Shelby went in order in the 1st, then took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd.

Rachel Fox walked With one out, Jensen Cloe walked. Fox had advanced to 2nd and 3rd on wild pitches. Torre Koontz grounded out, but drove Fox home.

Boone walked one batter in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd innings. Her shutout was challenged in the 3rd with a runner on 2nd and 3rd, thanks to a fielding error.

Boone threw out the next batter from the mound, Fox followed throwing out the following batter from in front of the plate. Boone then rang up the last batter.

In the top of the 4th, Brandy Smith was hit by a pitch with one out and she stole 2nd. Cloe walked again. Koontz then singled and drove in a run. With two outs, Holland singled her first run in and stole 2nd.

Courtney Williams , who hit two homers in her last game, singled. Kayla Brachbill singled and Madison Boone hit the fourth straight single with two outs, making it a 6-0 Ram lead.

Boone’s shutout was challenged again in the 4th. She KO’d the first batter, then an error put a runner on. She walked a batter. Brachbill threw out the next batter on a grounder. The runners were at 2nd and 3rd with two outs, but Fox threw out another batter out at 1st from in front of the plate.

In the top of the 5th, Fox primed the pump leading off and being hit by a pitch. With two outs, Koontz Walked and stole 2nd. With two runners in scoring position, Eigsti singled a run in, 7-0.

Freshman Maddie Holland came to the plate with two runners and jacked her first high school home run, a 3-run blast. Her shot made it 10-0 and Vandy needed a run to extend the game.

Boone went to the circle to try to close out her no-hitter. She walked the first batter and the next batter hit a fly ball that Smith squeezed in center field. Cloe then snagged a pop-up with two outs, Boone walked another batter. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Boone ended the game and recorded her no-no, ringing up the final batter.
