Okaw Beats Bunker Hill in 11th

It wasn't a shot heard 'round the world, but Joe Jeffers' RBI single in the top of the 11th was the game-winner in Bunker Hill on Saturday, as Okaw Valley baseball (7-4) won, 3-2.

Two Okaw pitchers struck out a total of 15 batters, while Bunker Hill's pitcher went all 11 innings and KO'd 13.

Peyton Hagerman started for Okaw, going five innings, giving up 2 runs on six hits, walking three and striking out nine.

Devon Still came on in the 6th with the game tied, 2-2. He allowed just two hits and one walk in six innings, while ringing up six.

Bunker Hill got on the board first in the 3rd. A lead-off walk was followed by two singled to load the bases. Tanner Coleman threw to Ian Tiarks to get the runner at home on a fielder's choice.

Hagerman struck out the next batter. With two outs, the opposing pitcher singled the lead run, 1-0.

Okaw responded immediately in the top of the 4th. TJ Miller led off walking. With one out, Tiarks reached on an error, went to 2nd and Miller to 3rd.

Justin Johnson ran for Tiarks and stole 2nd. With two outs, Still launched a fly ball to center for the out and Miller scored on a catcher error, tying the game, 1-1. Johnson stole 3rd and also scored on a passed ball for the lead, 2-1.

In the bottom of the 5th, Bunker Hill got the first two men on via walk and a hit batter. Hagerman came back strong with two consecutive strikeouts. However, a singled tied the game, 2-2.

Between the 5th and 11th innings, base runners were scarce and no runner made it to 3rd from either team. One tried for Bunker Hill in the bottom of the 8th.

Representing the winning run, Gavin singled and went to 2nd on an error. With two outs, Gavin tried to steal 3rd, but Hagerman, who was now playing catcher, gunned him down to end the inning.
