W/SS Thrown By Broncos

The Windsor/Stew-Stras Devil were riding high in the saddle in their round robin championship game, until Cerro Gordo bucked them off on Saturday, handing the Devils a 4-3 loss.

The Devils had plenty of base runners in the 1-run loss, but they stranded 11. The inability to get them home cost them the game.

Cerro Gordo got on the board first in the 1st with a solo run. Windsor/Stew-Stras then put on a 3-run rally in the bottom of the 4th for a 3-1 lead. The Broncos began crow hopping right away and scored two runs in their next at bat to tie the score.

Windsor/Stew-Stras failed to counter in the bottom of the 5th and Cerro Gordo took a 1-run lead in the 6th, 4-3. Windsor could muster no scores the last three at bats and had to take the tough loss.

Mark Jones went the distance for the loss, giving up just four runs on seven hits and two walks in seven innings, while striking out five. Jacob Kramer and Nic Hutchinson led the Devil hit squad. Both were 2-for-4 with a run scored. Alex Allen was 1-for-4, but drove in two of the three runs. Bryse Bugger 1-for-3, hit in the other run.

Cerro Gordo’s pitcher, Gross, also went the distance, giving up seven hits and walking four, while striking out nine. Blickensderfer led the Broncos, going 3-for-3 with the game’s only extra-base hit, a double.
