Athlete of the Week

The Daily Union Athletes of the Week all battered their teams to victory, while won was guilty of a no-no.

Lead-off hitter Courtney Williams launched not just one, but two home runs for Shelbyville softball against Argenta on Wednesday. Williams smacked a 2-run home run, then tripled, before hitting another 2-run home run. She drove in four of the 10 Ram runs.

Freshman Ram Maddie Holland hit her first high school home run on Thursday at Vandalia. Holland went 3-for-3 against Hillsboro the previous Thursday.

On Wednesday, she hit 1-for-4, then came back this Thursday and hit 2-for-3, and launched a 3-run home run. Holland drove in four runs and scored twice.

Mo Hunter of Central A&M softball also went yard. Hunter went 2-for-4 and drove in four runs in a win over Cerro Gordo on Tuesday. Hunter also recorded a 3-run home run to cap a 4-run rally giving A&M the lead for good.

Kennedy Ferris of Stew-Stras/Windsor softball had a big bopper, as well. Ferris was already hitting .370 during a 7-game SS/W win streak. Then against Pana on Tuesday, Ferris upped her average, going 3-for-4 with a double and a a long ball, driving in two runs.

Madison Boone not only rocketed a ball into orbit, she recorded a no-hitter. Boone went 1-for-4 against Hillsboro, hit 1-for-4 for against Argenta, but blasted another home run.

On Thursday, Boone threw a no-hit, shutout, 10-run win. Boone went all five innings, walking six and striking out five, and only had one ball hit out of the infield.
