Shelby Boys, A&M Girls Own Bi-County

The Annual Bi-County track meet on Tuesday in Sullivan, was once again the conquest of the Shelbyville Ram boys and the Central A&M girls track teams.

With their full compliment of athletes, Shelbyville dominated the boys meet with 204 points, out-distancing the field of seven other teams by 113 points. Neoga was 2nd (91), A&M 3rd (81), followed by Arthur-Lovington (73.5), Sullivan-Okaw Valley (60.5), Stew-Stras (30), Cowden-Herrick (14), and Windsor (2).

Central A&M (125 points) won the girls meet, holding off runner-up Neoga (115.5) by just 9.5 points and SOV by 15 points (110). Shelbyville was 4th (97), followed by Windsor (48.5), Arthur-Lovington (46.5), Stew-Stras (10), and Cowden-Herrick (2).

"This was a pretty good performance for us and we could see what kind of team we have when the baseball players are with us," said Ram coach Kevin Kramer. "We had a lot of personal bests in the meet. We still need to get better in some areas, if we are to compete with Monticello at the Conference meet in a few weeks."

Shelbyville swept the distance races and three of the four relays. They also took the high jump and the pole vault. They didn't just win eight events, they were two and three deep in those wins.

Preston Henze won the 800 (2:09), Kent Wilson was 2nd (2:09.7), and Trey Wade was 3rd (2:10.2). Marcus Skinner was 1st in the 1600 (4:36.69), Tyler Pasley was 2nd 4:36.34), and Jaden Stockdale was 3rd (4:43.87). Drew Snider won the 2-mile (11:27.76), Erik Bowers was 2nd (11:44.30), and Josh Bernson was 3rd (12:01.2).

Jordan Smith won the high jump (6-2) and teammate Dylan Patch, a baseball player, was 2nd (5-10). In the pole vault, Sebastian Smith took the gold (11-3) and teammate Luke Foltz was 2nd (11-0).

Those 1, 2, 3 and 1, 2 finishes netted the Rams 108 right there, enough to win the meet, besides all the other Ram performances.

The Rams won the 4x1 relay (45.9) with 3 of the 4 runners being ball players, Tyler Hendryx, Brett Peifer and Spencer Shadwell, along with sprinter Devin Peterson. Shelby won the 4x4 with two ball players (Hendryx, Peifer, Henze, Martin) in 3:35.6. Shelby also won the 4x8 (Jordan Sieger, Drennian Martin, Skinner, Henze) in 9:16.76. That added another 30 team points.
