Rams Win A&M Showdown

---- — Shelbyville got thumped by Meridian on Monday, 11-1, while Central A&M got thumped by Monticello, 19-1. On Tuesday, A&M out-hit Riverton, 14-10. Wednesday was the showdown between Shelby and A&M. A&M made a 7th-inning, 2-out comeback and fell just shy, losing 11-10.

Shelby drew 1st blood and held the lead throughout the game. They led 2-0, 2-1, 4-2, 4-3, then 7-3 and 7-5.

In the 6th, Rachel Fox led off with a single and Jensen Cloe jacked a home run on a 0-2 pitch. With two outs, Maddie Holland doubled and Madison Boone singled. Kayla Brachbill walked and Torre Koontz reached on an error to make it, 11-5.

Shelby was in the cat bird seat, but the cat bird was still almost eaten. Taylor Jordan led off the 6th with a double and scored, 11-6. It was the same score when A&M came to the plate for the last time.

With two outs, Lexee Smith singled. Taylor Jordan walked. They advanced on a passed ball.Kaley Hennings singled both runners home, 11-8.

Rachel Friesner doubled and Morgan Damery singled Hennings home, 11-9. Mo Hunter put the ball in play and reached on an error, making it 10-9. A ground ball to Brandy Smith at short ended the game, as she made the peg across the diamond to Cloe at 1st.

On Tuesday, A&M was able to win a run-fest at Riverton, 14-10.

“We pounded out 18 hits to beat Riverton,” said A&M coach Wayne Jordan. “Kresin got the win, going 5 innings. Olivia Jordan pitched the final 2 innings and got the save. The key moment was when Jordan struck out three in a row in the 6th with the bases loaded and CAM up by three.”
