---- — Sullivan found a groove from the start of their game against Central A&M on Tuesday, as they 10-runned the Raiders in five innings, 15-5.
“Sullivan hit and scored runs up and down there lineup,” said A&M coach Wayne Jordan, “including five extra base hits. Central A&M committed three errors.”
All but one Sullivan batter hit safely and that one walked three times and scored. Three of them had multiple hits. The ‘Skins hit two triples and three doubles.
All but one Sullivan player scored and that one hit 3-for-4 with a double and was caught trying to score. Four Redskins had multiple scores, three of them scored three times.
Sullivan scored in a steady drum beat. They used two walks, a single by Inman, and a double by Ruppert to go up 2-0. In the 2nd, a walk, a dropped 3rd strike, followed by a triple from Stewart and a double from Inman made it 5-0. That was just a down payment.
A&M finally got on the board in the 3rd. Taylor Jordan and Kaley Hennings led off with consecutive singles. Rachel Friesner reached on a fielder’s choice.
With the bases jammed Mo Hunter lifted a sacrifice fly and Jordan tagged and scored, 5-1. With two outs, Lexee Smith smacked a 2-run single, getting A&M back in the game at that point, 5-3.
However, Sullivan did A&M one better with a 4-run rally in the 3rd. Two singles and an error put the first three batters on. With one out, Gottfriedt doubled runs in. Inman followed with her third hit and second RBI to give Sullivan a 9-3 lead.
A&M answered in the 4th, but not enough. With two outs, Taylor Jordan clubbed a double. Hennings singled and Jordan scored on an error. Friesner singled and sent the speedy Hennings home, 9-5 Sully.
Sullivan doubled the Raiders out put in the top of the 4th with another 4-run rally in the bottom of the 4th. A single, a sacrifice, a Raider error preceeded a triple by Boyer. Boyer was sacrificed it and Sully led 13-5.
Olivia Jordan led off the Raider 5th with a single to try to spark a comeback or at least extend the game. But the next three batters went down in order.
Sully needed a couple runs to pull the plug and they got them. A Raider reliever came on to pitch and it wasn’t the answer. She walked the first batter. The next batter singled. With one out, a fielder’s choice still held Sully from scoring. But with two outs, an error brought a run home, followed by Stewart’s walk-off single, scoring the 10th run and ending the game.
