W/SS Wins 3 In A Row

---- — Windsor/Stew-Stras baseball ran their record to 17-4 on Tuesday. After a couple blowout wins on the weekend over Tri-County and ALAH, it was another sterling performance from ace Christian Vonderheide on Tuesday. Vonderheide threw a 3-hitter, striking out 13 as he beat Altamont, 4-1.

Vonderheide and Garrett Ziegler had a pitcher’s duel going until the bottom of the 5th. Windsor drew first blood with a run in the 1st. Altamont answered with a run in the 3rd, when Nick Miller was hit by a pitch and Ziegler drove him in.

In the bottom of the 5th, W/SS put a couple more runs across to lead, 3-1. The Devils added an insurance run in the 6th. Vonderheide continued to hold court and notched another win.

Ziegler only allowed five hits in six innings, but walked seven and struck out just four.

Devon Deremiah led the Devil hitters, going 2-for-3 with the game’s only double, driving in a run, and scoring once. Alex Allen was 1-for-2, with a run scored. Bryse Bugger singled, walked, and scored. Vonderheide walked twice and scored once. Nic Hutchinson singled and drove in a run.

Windsor/Stew-Stras’ win on Friday had a lot of action with 27 total hits, five doubles, and seven home runs. However, it was W/SS that cashed in at the home plate, doubling up Tri-County, 14-7.

Jacob Kramer launched two home runs, Hayden Cole one, Christian Vonderheide one, and Bryse Bugger one. Tri-County had two homers. Alex Allen, Dylan Ohnesorge, and Devon Deremiah hit doubles. Tri-County had two.

The lead changed early until W/SS posted big rallies in the 4th and 5th. Windsor led 1-0, then Tri-County tied it, 1-1. Windsor led 2-1, then Tri-Cpunty went up 4-2 in the 3rd.

W/SS had a 4-run rally in the 4th to lead 6-4. Tri-County tied in in the bottom of the inning, 6-6.

W/SS then had a rally that wouldn’t be matched, a 5-run rally in the 5th. W/SS scored nine runs in two successive innings to lead 11-6. Tri-County missed a gear in the 5th and W/SS added a run in the 6th, 12-6.

Tri-County managed a solo run in the 6th, but W/SS answered with two runs in the 7th to cap the scoring at 14-7.

Kramer led W/SS, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs. Allen not only came on in relief to get the win, he went 3-for-4 with a double, scoring four times. Vonderheide went yard, as he went 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs. Deremiah was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Cole went 1-for-4 with a home runs and two RBIs.

After Allen came in he shut down Tri-County, allowing just one run on five hits, no walks, while striking out five in four innings.

Friday

On Saturday, the Devils completely dispossessed ALAH (Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond), 14-1.

The Devils struck early and often, scoring nine runs in the 1st inning. After that things calmed down and W/SS and ALAH scored one run each in the 2nd. W/SS was still a run shy of the 10-run early out, up 10-1. Fast forward to the 4th, the Devils put up a 3-spot and put the 10-run rule in effect, 13-1.

Dylan Ohnesorge and the Devil defense continued to handle ALAH. W/SS added a superfluous run in the top of the 5th, then slammed the door shut on ALAH for the early dismissal.

Hayden Cole led the Devils, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and, count ‘em, six RBIs. Tristan Warner went 1-for-1 and that one was a home run. Allen went 2-for-4, smacking a double and a triple, and driving in three.
