Okaw Valley notched a win in a pitcher’s duel that Devon Still won with 16 strikeouts, beating Arthur on Wednesday, 2-0.
Still threw a 1-hit shutout, walking five and ringing up 16 in a complete-game victory. Schuring also pitched well for Arthur, but he allowed two earned runs on just two hits and four walks, while striking out 11.
Still was money from the jump. he struck out the first three batters he faced. Schuring got a strikeout and a ground out in the Okaw 1st, then Peyton hagerman walked and Still singled. But Schuring rang up the next guy to keep it 0-0.
Still struck the fourth man he faced, too, then gave up a walk. Still threw out a man on a ground ball, then KO’d the next batter, victim #5 of seven batters faced.
Schuring struck out two more in the 2nd and got the third to ground out, keeping the game scoreless.
Still rang up the first Arthur batter in the 3rd and he was thrown out on the dropped 3rd strike. Still rang up the next guy and the third batter flew out to right.
Okaw got all they needed in the 3rd. Tanner Coleman led off with a walk and went to 2nd on a balk. Colton Sroka singled and Coleman went to 3rd, then scored, 1-0.
Sroka stole second during the first out. Sroka stole 3rd. Hagerman had strike three, but made it to 1st on the dropped 3rd strike. Schuring intentionally walked Still to load the bases and hope for a double play.
Justin Johnson came in to run for Still. A passed ball by the catcher allowed Sroka to steal home, 2-0.
Fruchtl walked and loaded the bases again with just one out. But, Schuring got out of the jam with back-to-back Ks.
Schuring flied out to start the 4th. Still gave up a walk. Still rang up the next guy and the following batter hit into a fielder’s choice.
