Even without all the baseball boys Shelbyville boys track won the Reskins Open in Sullivan on Tuesday, while Central A&M held off Sullivan-Okaw Valley to win the girls meet.
Shelbyville scored 99 points to beat out Tuscola (94) for the win. Arcola (74) edged out St. Teresa (73) for 3rd. On the girls side, A&M scored 142 points and SOV could only get as close as 122 points for 2nd. Tuscola won more events, but the Rams scored more points overall.
Shelbyville only won one distance race, the 4x8 relay, but the distance athletes had a couple scorers in each event to tally points. Sebastian Smith won the pole vault for the Rams and Jordan Smith was 2nd in the high jump.
Zack Ballinger of Central A&M won the 110 hurdles and was 2nd in the 300 hurdles and the long jump. However, teammate Jason Pokalsey didn’t compete in the sprints so A&M boys finished 7th.
Ryan Dooley was back strong in the girls hurdles and swept the 100s and 300s. A&M won two of the four relays, Mikaela Cole won the pole vault clearing 9-3 and Abby Forlines stepped up to win the high jump (4-10). Salena Sloan won the 3200 and was 2nd in the 1600 run.
Although Emily Neuhauser and Amanda McClain led the sprints for Sullivan-Okaw Valley, Jorji Sparrgrove hung in there to get CAM points. Neuhauser was 1st in the 100 and Sparrgrove 3rd. McClain and Neuhauser were 31, #2 in the 200, but Sparrgrove was 3rd. McClain was 1st in the quarter, while Sparrgrove was 2nd.
Mikah Maples (CAM) was 2nd in the discus and 4th in the shot. Mollie Bowman won the triple jump for SOV, again. Blair Johnston stepped up to win the mile for 7th place Shelbyville.
