Amanda McClain claimed the state championship in the 400 meters, was 3rd in the state in the long jump, was 7th in the 200 dash and anchored the state championship 4x200 relay as she led the Sullivan-Okaw Valley track team to 3rd place iat the state meet on Saturday.
McClain and the 4x2 relay won a state ttitle two years ago and set the existing record. That year and last year, McClain was 2nd in the 400. This year she grabbed the gold, led her relay team to another gold and the co-op program to among the best in the state.
Relay teammate Emily Neuhauser earned a 5th place medal in the 100 meters and a 2nd place medal in the 200 dash to add to her collection. Mollie Bowman, another relay-mate, scored a 9th place medal in the triple jump.
The repeat state champs from the last two years, Central A&M, didn’t quite have enough for a 3-peat, but they brought home hardware, too.
The Raiders earned a 5th place medal in the 4x800 relay and a 6th place medal in the 4x4 relay.
Paige Seitz, Salena Sloan, Kylee Burcham, and Mikaela Cole ran a 9:46.60 for 5th in the 4x8. Paige Seitz, Mikaela Cole, Jorji Sparrgrove and Ryan Dooley ran a 4:03.28 in the 4x4 for 6th place.
Mikah Maples returned to the medal stand this year, placing 2nd in the discus (133-4) and scoring a surprise 3rd place finish in the shot put (39-9).
Neoga also procured some medals. Olivia Ott (17-5.5) and Courtney Croy (17-2.5), earned 6th and 8th place medals in the long jump. The twosome were joined by Jaycie Roy and Mallori Harshman in the 4x2 relay to gain a 5th place state medal (1:46.47)
