Night at the Museum

It’s not a night “at” the Smithsonian. It’s a night “with” the Smithsonian at the BRS Museum in Nokomis on Saturday, June 7. Like at the BRS Museum, admission for all events is always free.

The Smithsonian Institute’s Traveling Exhibit “Hometown Teams” will be on display at the BRS Museum from June 7 through July 20.

BRS Museum will be open with expanded hours during the Smithsonian Exhibit from noon until 9 a.m., daily, and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Volunteers from the community will provide the extra staff.

Tomorrow, there will be a special event called, “Night of Champions” June 7 at Nokomis High School, beginning at 7 p.m.

The program will honoring state championship teams from six area high schools, including Nokomis, Lincolnwood, Hillsboro, Taylorville, Shelbyville, and Pana.

Each opportunity will have an opportunity to recall how those victories affected the players and the towns.

There will five other special events during the six weeks the 800 square foot Smithsonian exhibit is on display in Nokomis.

“Take Me Out To The Ballgame” will be presented on June 10 at 9:30 a.m. at the Nokomis Public Library. It will be geared for ages 6-10. The public library will have a reading, writing, graphing, and crafts available. A tour of the museum will also be included.

“Twin Bill At The Movies” will be held June 13 at 6:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. At Steele Hall at the corner of State and Spruce Streets in Nokomis. Enjoy the kids’ classic “Little Giants” followed by the critically acclaimed recent release “42, which chronicles a portion of Jackie Robinson’s career.
