Shelby County Legion baseball wasted no time getting into action after the Windsor/Stew-Stras Devils exited the postseason. But they lost a pair at Decatur, 10-9 and 7-6.
W/SS lost in the super-sectional on Monday, then some of the team members played a doubleheader against Decatur on Tuesday. Shelby Legion had to cancel a couple of prior games because of the extended seasons of both Shelbyville High baseball and Windsor/Stew-Stras baseball. Shelbyville played into sectional and W/SS the super-sectional.
Shelby County took an early lead in both games, but couldn’t hold it. They led 5-2 in game 1, before losing in the bottom of the 7th. They led 6-0 in game 2, before losing by one run in the bottom of the 7th to a crushing 4-run rally.
Shelby jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st, but Decatur tied the score in the bottom of the inning. Shelby came back with a run in the 2nd for a 3-2 lead. In the 3rd, Shelby put up two more runs for the 5-2 advantage.
Decatur started chipping away in the bottom of the 3rd, cutting it to a 2-run game, 5-3. Meanwhile, Shelby failed to score in three straight innings, leaving the door open for Decatur. Decatur cut it to a Shelby lead to 5-4 in the 4th, then knotted the score in the 6th, 5-5.
Shelby finally put another run on the board in the 7th to lead, 6-5. However, Decatur got the walk-off win in the bottom of the 7th with two runs.
Six Shelby players hit safely. Tyler Hendryx (Shelbyville) and Tyler Romack (Neoga) had multiple hits. Hendryx went 2-for-4 with a run, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base. Romack was 2-for-3 and was hit by a pitch. Zach Monroe (Neoga), Dylan Ohnesorge (Stew-Stras), Jacob Kramer (Stew-Stras) and Trevor Moore (Neoga) also hit safely. Moore and Kramer hit solo doubles.
