---- — Mens softball was in action on Tuesday and Naber Grain and BAMF split a low-scoring opener and a uptempo nightcap. Naber Grain won game 1, 6-4, and BAMF won game 2, 18-11.
Travis Beard was the home run king of the night, going deep in each game. Beard went yard with a 2-run home run in game 1 and a 3-run blast in game 2. A.J. Howell, former Shelbyville Ram ball player smacked a solo homer in game 1.
In game 1, BAMF took a 1-0 lead in the 1st and held it until Naber scored a pair of runs in three straight innings. BAMF got two of those runs back in the bottom of the 5th, but still trailed, 6-3.
BAMF held Naber Grain scoreless in the last two innings to leave the door open for a comeback. But, BAMF could only come up with one run in the 6th to fall short.
In game 2, BAMF exorcised that score-challenged demon early. They erupted for six runs in the top of the 1st, more runs than they scored in seven innings in game 1.
Naber got one run back, but trailed by five until the bottom of the 3rd. They got one more run back in the 3rd, but the score-challenged monkey was now on their back.
BAMF erupted again in the 4th, this time for nine runs. Naber Grain was facing a 15-2 deficit and dead in the water, almost.
In the bottom of the 4th, Naber Grain found their bats and had their own 6-run rally. The two teams scored 15 runs in one inning, after scoring only 18 runs in the previous 10 innings that night.
However, after that out-of-body scoring in the 4th, Naber and BAMF fell back into the previous pattern.
Up 15-8 in the 5th, BAMF extended their lead by two runs and Naber didn’t respond. In the 7th, BAMF upped their lead to 18-8.
In the bottom of the 7th, Naber faced defeat down by 10 with one at bat to salvage their effort. They scored three runs, but it was their turn to fall short.
