Ram Track Wins Home Opener, Lady Rams 4th

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Shelby boys won their home opening track meet by a bunch, while St. Teresa and Central A&M girls battled for supremacy.

In the boys meet, Shelby scored 150 points, double what second place A&M did (72 points). Meridian was 3rd with 70 points, SOV scored 60 and St. T boys just 19. In the girls meet, St. T edged A&M 129 to 122 for 1st. SOV was a strong 3rd with 78 points, followed by Shelby girls in 4th (29 points) and Meridian in 5th (8 points).

During the indoor season the distance boys led the way, but in this meet the field events and the sprints were front and center for the winning Rams. The Rams won five of the six field events. The Rams won two of the three sprints and swept the hurdles. In the distance races, the Rams had a pair of seconds.

Eli Miller won the long jump (19-2), won the 100 (11.0), and won the 200. Luke McConnell swept the hurdles, the 100 and the 300. Mitchell Barna won the discus, Luke Hatfield won the pole vault, Jake Keown won the triple jump, and Tyler Hendryx won the high jump (6-0). Neil Yockey won the 3200 run.

The Rams also had four seconds. Darin Breeden (5-10) made it #1, #2 in the high jump, Mikel Welton was 2nd in the shot put, clearing 40 feet (40-1.5), while Alex Matlock was 2nd in the 800 and Martin was 2nd in the 1600 (4:47.83).

Central A&M won the two speed relays and one individual event. They won the 4x100 and the 4x200. Jason Pokalsey also did his thing in the sprints. Pokalsey won the quarter (54.57) and took 2nd in the 100 (11.39) and the 200.

SOV won one individual event, the shot put. Schlieker threw 41-2.   

In the girls meet, Central A&M won six events. Taylor Adcock won four: the 100 dash (12.57), the 100 hurdles (16.25), and the 300 hurdles. Genny Rose Stringer swept the shot (32-5) and discus. Mikaela Cole won the pole vault. They were 2nd in the discus. Postin was 2nd in the high jump (4-6) and Ryan Dooley was 2nd in the 100 hurdles. A&M also placed 2nd in three of the four relays. The were runner-up in the 4x1, the 4x4 (4:34.45) and in the 4x8 relay (11:02).  

SOV also won six events. Amanda McClain won the 400 (1:00.1) and the long jump (16-8.5). Mollie Bowman won the triple jump. Emily Neuhauser won the 200 (27.68), Shelby dash won the high jump (5-1), and SOV won the 4x2 relay (1:52.1). Bowman was also 2nd (14-9) in the long jump to McClain.

Shelby girls' best finish was in the 800 run thanks to Morgan Powers. She was also 3rd in the high jump (4-4). Keeley Buhrmester was 3rd in the 100 dash (13.87). Shelby was 3rd in the 3200 relay (11:06) and the 1600 relay (4:41.07).
