Lady Rams Raze Hilltoppers

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Shelby softball traveled to Hillsboro on Thursday and leveled the Hilltoppers, 15-5.

Abbie Watton went the distance for the Rams, allowing five runs, seven hits, just one walk, while striking out six.

The Ram hit crew stockpiled 12 hits to go along with seven free passes, while only having one strikeout. Grace Moll led the Rams, going 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs, while Madison Boone hit another home run, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

Watton helped herself, going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, while Brandy Smith was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Rachel Fox and Kayla Brachbill also doubled.

Shelby opened up the game with a 4-run rally and Hillsboro responded with a 3-run spurt. Shelby added another 4-run rally in the 2nd and Hillsboro could only get one of those runs back. Shelby then opened their can of whoop'em all the way with a 5-run rally in the 3rd to post a 13-4 lead.

Shelby added a run in the 4th and one in the 5th to lead by 11, 15-4. Hillsboro gave a last gasp with a solo run in the bottom of the 5th, but it didn't stop the early dismissal.

Shelby 7-2 plays at OVC foe St. Teresa on Monday.
