Ram Softball Magic No. 14

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Shelbyville softball had a magic number this week, #14. They beat St. Teresa, 14-0, on Monday. They beat Stew-Stras, 14-4, on Tuesday. Grace Moll threw 14 Ks to beat Tolono, 5-0, on Wednesday.

Against St. T, "Amazing" Grace Moll threw a 1-hit shutout with zero walks and 13 strikeouts. That eliminated any offensive threat to the Rams. When it came to the Rams offense, it was unleashed like a plague on the Bulldogs. They pounded out 15 hits, including four doubles, a triple, and two home runs.

Madison Boone smacked a triple and both home runs, driving in five RBIs. Jensen Cloe doubled, Kayla Brachbill doubled, Rachel Fox doubled and Lindsey Eigsti doubled.

Monday

On Tuesday against Stew-Stras (3-2), the Rams changed pitchers and pulled a repeat, winning 14-4. Six Rams had multiple hits, including five more doubles. Moll had two doubles, Cloe one, Brandy Smith one and Brachbill one. In Monday's and Tuesday's games, the Rams hit a total 12 extra base hits.

The other Ram ace, Abbie Watton went the distance, allowing four runs on four hits, striking out six batters and walking no one in seven innings.

On Wednesday against Tolono, Moll had 13 Ks through the top of the 6th and Tolono fielders made plays. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 6th inning, when the Rams broke out the lumber. Shelby erupted for five runs, a death blow to Tolono. The Rams out-hit Tolono 8 to 1, with five of the eight hits in the 6th.

In the bottom of the 6th, lead-off hitter Jensen Cloe singled. Kayla Brachbill singled. Moll was walked to load the bases. Clean-up hitter Madison Boone cleaned off the bases with a 3-run double. Brandy Smith singled, scoring Boone. Abbie Watton hit the fifth hit of the inning and was the sixth straight batter to reach base. With one out, Lindsey Eigsti sacrificed Smith home for the 5-0 lead.
