Shelby Legion, T'town Sunday Split

Shelby Legion returned home to Windsor on Sunday and held off Teutopolis to get a win in the opener, 4-2. But in game 2, a 6-run Teutopolis rally gave them the edge to force a split, 12-5.

In game 1, Shelby built a 4-run lead and then cut short a T’town 7th-inning comeback attempt.

Andrew Hawkins got Shelby going with a 2nd inning lead-off double. Neil Yockey followed with an RBI-single for the early lead, 1-0.

In the 4th, Christian Vonderheide drew a walk. Jake Keown doubled and put two men in scoring position. With one out, Hatfield smacked a 2-run double for a 3-0 Shelby lead.

In the bottom of the 5th, Yockey hit a lead-off double. He was sacrificed by Trevor Moore to 3rd. Mike Baker then drove Yockey in on a ground out, 4-0 Shelby.

Christian Vonderheide had held Teutopolis scoreless through the first six innings, striking out five and giving up just three hits and walking two. He was challenged in the 7th, but held on.

T’town got three hits and two walks in the 7th. They scored two runs. With two on and two out Vonderheide KO’d the last man on four pitches to clinch the win.
