A cadre of four Shelby pitchers gave out nine walks and hit five more batters, and commtted one error. Shelby had a total of 15 free passes while striking out just six batters. T’town gave up just three walks and hit three batters, with no errors for just six free passes. Shelby gave out nine more free passes in a 6-run loss.
Teutopolis got on the board in the 3rd thanks to a walk, a Tommy Flach double, another walk and a bases loaded hit batter, 1-0. Shelby answered in the bottom of the inning. Jake Keown led off with a single, Luke Htfield singled with one out, and Keown scored on a wild pitch, 1-1.
In the 4th, T’town broke out. Shelby Starter Mike Baker gave up a walk, two singles and hit a batter. He left trailing 2-1 with the bases loaded and one out. Trevor Moore gave up a 2-RBI single, then an RBI double. A sac fly drove in another run, 7-1 T’town.
T’town added a run in the 5th. Moore gave up three walks and hit a batter and was pulled, with the bases loaded and two outs, trailing 6-1. Hatfield came in and threw a walk forcing in a run, 8-1.
Shelby tried to gin up a comeback, scoring again in the 5th. Yockey led off with a single and, with one out, Gunner Theis doubled him home. Hatfield made it consecutive RBI doubles, scoring Theis, 8-3.
T’town matched that in the top of the 6th off a walk, a single, and a double, 10-3. They threw another handful of dirt on the Shelby grave in the top of the 7th. With one on, one out, Justin Kenter launched a 2-run homer, 12-3.
Shelby had a last gasp in the bottom of the 7th. Keown led off with a single, followed by a Theis single. Hatfield hit his second RBI double in a row. With one out, Andrew Hawkins sac-flied Theis across the plate to cap the score, 12-5.
