Hogan, Boarman Aid EIU

Over the last few years, a pair of Shelby Area athletes earned spots on the Eastern Illinois University men's track team and have pumped up the Panthers.

Bryce Hogan of Central A&M and Cody Boarman of Shelbyville have distinquished themselves at the collegiate level competing for nearby EIU.

In high school, Hogan qualified for the 2009 IHSA Class 1A State championships in four events. He won the long jump and triple jump at the Moweaqua Sectional and was second in the 200 dash. He leapt 21-3 in the sectional long jump, and cleared 43-9 in the triple jump. He ran 22.84 in the 200, and was on the 4x100 relay team.

He placed 5th as a senior at the IHSA Class A meet with a distance of 44-4.75. He was 9th in the long jump as a junior. Hogan qualified for State in the triple jump as a sophomore.

As a freshman at EIU, Hogan competed in jumps during 2010 indoor and outdoor season. Hogan placed 5th at the indoor Ohio Valley Conference Championships in both the long jump and triple jump. His best long jump mark was 22-9 at the OVC meet. His best triple jump mark was 46-6.25 at EIU Early Bird.

Hogan placed 4th in triple jump and 5th in long jump at the outdoor OVC Championships. His best long jump distance was 22-9 at the Big Blue Classic. His best triple jump was 45-4.25 at the OVC meet.

As a sophmore, Hogan competed in 2011 indoor and outdoor track. He competed in long jump and triple jump during the indoor season. His top long jump mark was 23-0 at Iowa State. His top triple jump mark was 44-5.25 at Notre Dame Meyo.

During the outdoor season was member of the OVC championship team, scoring points in the long jump and triple jump. His top triple jump was 46-0.75 at the OVC meet, which earned bronze medalist honors. His top long jump was 23-0.50 at the Western Kentucky University Hilltopper.

As a junior, Hogan competed in 2012 indoor and outdoor track. Hogan was second team All-OVC in the long jump with a second place finish at OVC Championships, jumping 24-1, which ranks 6th on EIU career list. His season best in the triple jump was 45-9 at the OVC meet, where he placed fourth.

During the outdoor season, Hogan was first team All-OVC in long jump, winning the OVC Championship with a mark of 24-11.25, the 5th best in EIU history. Hogan placed 43rd at the NCAA Regional in the long jump clearing 23-0.50. His top triple jump was 46-8.25 at the OVC meet.

In his senior season, Hogan competed in the 2013 indoor and outdoor seasons. Hogan won the long jump at the EIU John Craft meet (22-05.25) and won the triple jump at the EIU indoor Early Bird Meet (42-06.75). He placed 3rd in the long jump in the indoor OVC Championships (23-06.75).

In the outdoor season, Hogan had a pair of seconds a week apart. He was 2nd At the WKU Relays in the long jump (24-0.25). He was 2nd at the ISU Spring Invite in the long jump (22-4.50). He was 3rd at the Louisville Twilight in the long jump (23-7.25). Hogan was 6th at the OVC Championships (23-5.25).

Hogan holds the 5th best outdoor long jump in EIU history (24-11.25) and the 6th best indoor long jump in EIU history (24-1).

In high school, Boarman qualified for IHSA Class 1A state in five events as a senior. He was a member of the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, while qualifying in the 100 dash, 200 dash and 400 dash. Boarman was the state runner-up in the 400 dash with a time of 48.97, while running the anchor leg on the 2nd place 4x400 relay team at State (3:20.97).

As a freshman at EIU, Boarman competed in the 2011 indoor and outdoor track seasons. He ran the 200 dash and the 400 dash during the indoor season. He was a member of OVC championship team. His top 400 dash indoor time was 48.46 at the NCAA Last Chance Meet. The time ranked 10th on the EIU career list.

He ran the 200 dash and 400 dash during outdoor season. He scored points for the OVC outdoor championship team in two events. His top 200 dash time was 22.28 at the OVC meet. His top 400 dash time was 48.53, also at the OVC meet.

As a sophomore, Boarman competed in the 2012 indoor and outdoor track seasons. He ran the 200 dash and the 400 dash during indoor season, earning second team All-OVC in the 400 dash with a time of 48.90, his season best.

During the outdoor season, Boarman ran the 400 dash and earned second team All-OVC with a time of 47.90. His season best was 47.79 at the EIU Big Blue Meet. He ran as a member of the 4x400 relay team that won the OVC Championship and placed 20th at the NCAA Regional (3:11.42).

As a junior, Boarman recorded four indoor wins. He won the 200 dash (22.49) and the 400 dash (49.38) at the EIU John Craft Meet (22.49). He won the 400 at the at the EIU Early Bird Meet (49.49). He was also 1st at the Indiana Relays in the 400 (48.98).

In the outdoor season, Boarman rose to the occasion and placed 2nd in the 400 dash at the OVC Championships (48.39).
