Shelby Volleyball Fades In Opener

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Shelbyville volleyball got off to a good start on opening night, but ended up fading at Taylorville, losing 25-19, 15-25, 18-25.

"This was a bit of a roller coaster for us," said Ram coach Lisa Peifer. "We started out really excited and jumped on them quickly in the 1st game, playing really well. The 2nd game, we didn't adjust to their blocking and struggled on service receive."

"On the night, we ended up with 23 errors that were unforced, either hitting or serving errors or net violations. When you give most of the game away, it's tough to win. Good thing is, I saw lots of positives and we'll just move from there."

Ram stats: Lindsey Eigsti 14 points, 11 assists, 6 digs; Rachel Fox 10 points, 1 ace, 6 kills, 8 digs; Smith 6 points, 1 ace, 4 kills, 5 digs, 1 block; Boone 11 points, 3 kills, 5 digs, 3 blocks; Kelcie Darnell 10 points, 1 block; Johnston 3 kills, 4 blocks; Courtney Williams 7 points, 3 assists, 2 digs; Jensen Cloe 2 digs.

The Rams JV  did to Taylorville JV what Taylorville varsity did to the Shelby varsity, came back hard after a 1st game loss. Shelby JV won, 23-25, 25-15, 25-11.

"We started off a little rocky, our setters and hitters weren't connecting and we had 1st game jitters," said Ram JV coach Jamie Watson. "As the night went on we gained more confidence and began connecting. We have a lot to work on, but we are getting there. In this heat the girls really stepped up and played hard for the win."
