SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Shelbyville volleyball finished the regular season by taking care of business on Senior Night, whooping Warrensburg, 25-12, 25-21.
"This was a nice win on Senior Night. The girls played well and with a lot of fine most of the night," said Ram coach Lisa Peifer. "The 1st game, we went at them aggressively and, even with five service errors, won by alarge margin."
The 25-12 blitz in game 1 was a nice start after the Rams failed to finish well on Tuesday against Maroa.
"The 2nd game was neck and neck until 20-20, when we finally showed the grit to take the match," Coach Peifer said. "We have seemed to stop playing at 20-20, so I was glad to see us finish. I'm really proud of the kids and the support we had here for our seniors."
Brandy Smith was a double-digit performer, serving 15 points with an ace. She also led at the net with five kills and one block (6 net points). Madison Boone joined her at the net with six kills.
Net defense was led by Ryann Ambrose, who has stepped up lately as a wall. She recorded three of the eight Ram blocks and also had three kills (6 net points). Kelcie Darnell added two blocks.
Courtney Williams was very active. She dished a team-high nine assists and served eight points with a team-high two aces. She also got down for a team-high 5 digs.
Senior soldier Bailey Ambrose saw action and swung for three kills and added a block (4 net points).
Shelbyville 18-12 (8-3 Okaw) heads to the annual Mt. Pulaski pre-postseason tourney on Saturday. Shelbyville (#2) opens regional play on Tuesday at the Pana 2A Regional, playing Teutopolis (#3) at 7 p.m.

The JV (12-2) uncharacteristically dropped just their second conference match, 23-25, 25-23, 13-15.
"We just couldn't get in a groove," said JV coach Jamie Watson. "Our passing wasn't on and we didn't play aggressive at the net. Definitely not the way we wanted to end the season. Overall, these girls had a great season and should be successful over the next few years."
Despite the loss, the Ram JV were in the match. Only four points separated the combatants over a 3-game set.
Shelby had two, almost four players, with double-doubles. Hannah Koonce was front and center with 10 service points, one ace, a team-high 12 digs and a team-high seven kills. Sydney Miller served 10 points and 10 digs and had a team-2nd six kills.
Caylee Wheeler split 20 assists evenly with Jacque Johnston, served nine points and got eight digs. Johnston, likewise, had 10 assists, eight points, two aces, and eight digs.
Torre Koontz stepped up at the line with a team-high 13 points and a team-high three aces, plus two kills. Blair Johnston also stepped up again, serving 11 points and recording nine digs, almost another double-double.

The fresh-soph Lady Rams notched another conference win on Thursday in a see-saw battle that they won on the uptick in the 3rd game, 15-11, 12-15, 15-5.
"The girls did a great job as a team," said fresh-soph coach Ann Dunaway. "They came out ready to play and communicated well. The 2nd game, we didn't make some smart choices, but came out strong in the 3rd game for the win. I am very proud of these girls and we had a great year. We will finish up our season with a tourney on Saturday."
Shelbyville fresh-soph (12-4, 7-2 Okaw) plays in the Tolono fresh-soph tourney on Saturday.
