Comets Take Tough Losses In NTC

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Stew-Stras volleyball had a leg up going into the NTC tournament, but a couple of teams they had owned, eked out 3-game, overtime wins to set the Comets back in the pack.

The Comets started strong on Thursday, beating Beecher City, 25-7, 25-14, and Altamont, 25-22, 25-21.

Facing Windsor for the third time this season, the Comets fell prey to that old adage in sports, that is is hard to beat a team three times in a season. It proved true. Windsor cam back from a miserable game 1 to win in the longest OT game of the season in the area, 13-25, 25-19, 34-32

“It was a tough loss,” said Comet coach Ronda Schlechte. “We came out strongt in game 1. Game 2 we struggled with passing. Game was an intense game going back and forth. Too many errors to get us the win. The girls fought hard to stay with them.”

Stew-Stras bounced back from the Friday loss to beat St. Elmo on Saturday in the  Silver Flight, 25-23, 18-25, 25-19.
