Shelby 8th Sinks Sullivan

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Shelbyville 8th grade ran their record to a perfect 7-0 on Monday, sinking Sullivan, 41-17.

Eight different Ram scored, led by Payton Howell with 14 points and Turner Pullen with 10 points. Howell nailed two more 3-pointers (2-of-6) and was 2-of-2 at the stripe. Pullen shot 67% from field (4-of-6) and made 2-of-3 at the line. Mason Cameron had six points, making 4-of-6 at the line.

The Ram second wave experienced extended floor time. Peyton Koonce led the Rams with six rebounds and Braden Young grabbed five boards. Both had one point, each.

Shelby opened the game with a 12-0 run. Howell hit his first three and Pullen and Tylr Gottfriedt both scored twice. Mason Cameron made 1-of-2 free throws.

In the 2nd, Shelby kept the pressure on, with a 12-5 run. Howell, Pullen, and Cameron scored twos. Pullen made two free throws and Cade Watson went to the line three times for 3-of-6 proficiency. Braden Young made 1-of-2 free throws. Shelby was up 24-5 at the break.

The Rams kept pace in the 3rd scoring a dozen points for the third straight quarter. They held Sully to a solo bucket and two free throws. Howell was on fire, making 3-of-4 field goal attempts, including a trey and made two free throws for 9 of his 14 points. Pulen had another two and Cameron made 1-of-2 foul shots.

The fat lady was singing as the 4th period opened with Shelby up, 36-9. They held Sullivan to a lone bucket again in the 4th and 6-of-10 free throws. Daythan Summers had the only Ram bucket of the 4th. Koonce had a free throw and Cameron made both ends of a 1 and 1.

Shelby got to the line for 25 free throws, making 13 (52%). Sullivan was 7-of-17 (41%).
