Moulton Nipped, then Blasted

---- — After the high-scoring 1-run loss on Monday, the Shelbyville Moulton softball team went to St. Anthony on Tuesday and suffered a low-scoring, 1-run loss, 4-3. Thursday, Shelby got T-towned on the road, 16-6.

St. Anthony got a down payment in the bottom of the 1st with a solo run. Shelby retired six of the next seven batters in the 2nd and 3rd. Shelby had runners on base in three of the first four innings, but couldn’t get them in. St. Anthony made it 2-0 in the 4th with a 2-out walk and an error.

In the top of the 5th, Shelby finally got on the board. With one out, back-to-back walks to Kendyll Dunaway and Amber Rezinas was followed by back-to-back singles from Hannah Kemp and Blair Rodman and back-to-back walks to Sydney Trainor and Maggie Furr. That put Shelby into the lead, 3-2.

St. Anthony answered back in the bottom of the 5th, again with two outs. A hit batter and a triple gave them a 4-3 lead. Shelby was hitless in the 6th and 7th and lost again by one run.

On Thursday, Teutopolis spun the revolving door at home plate so much it almost came off its hinges, scoring 15 runs in the 1st inning.

Sydney Trainor got on base in the top of the 1st, but was stranded. After Teutopolis was done throwing their 1st inning body blow they bided their time until the 5th inning early dismissal.

Shelby, however, got on board in the 2nd. Savannah Marty doubled and scored, 15-1 Shoes. Shelby scored again in the 3rd. Mackenzie Perry and Kemp reached base, but were forced out. Rodman reached base. Trainor singled and Kayla McCabe singled to make it 15-2. Teutopolis got a run back with a lead-off walk in the 4th, 16-3.

Shelby scored again in the 5th. Rodman, Trainor and McCabe strated the 5th all reaching base and scoring. Marty had another extra-base hit and scored on a Dunaway single.

Despite the 4-run rally, Shelby was still down 16-6 and was sent home early.

Not counting the 1st inning blowout, Moulton outscored Teutopolis 6-1 over the next four innings. Rodman reached base 2-of-3 times and scored twice. Trainor reached base all three times, scoring once. McCabe reached base twice and scored once. Marty reached base twice and scored twice. Dunaway reached base 2-of-3 times. Every Shelby batter reached base at least once.
