Moulton baseball gives as it gets

The Moulton Ram baseball team was sporting an 8-1 record when they traveled to Mt. Zion and lost a nip'n tuck game, 4-1. They gave what they got on Thursday, returning home to play Taylorville and winning, 4-1.

Wednesday, Mt. Zion had a 3-run rally in the 6th to break open a 1-1 game. Mt. Zion took a 1-run lead in the 3rd. Shelby came back to tie it in the 4th, 1-1.

In the bottom of the 6th, Mt. Zion had a 2-out rally with an error, a walk, a single and another error. Shelby had no answer in the top of the 7th and took just their second loss.

Shelby helped Mt. Zion by booting the ball five times, while Payton Howell threw 9 strikeouts, walked just two and gave up five hits, while allowing zero earned runs.

Shelby was in another pitching duel on Thursday against Taylorville. They had two men in scoring position in the first two innings, but they were stranded. Those squandered chances evaporated throughout the next three innings.

Meanwhile, Ram starter Turner Pullen and the Rams defense retired Taylorville in order the first four innings. They got four men to the plate in the 5th. Pullen rang up 10 batters in those five innings.

Malcolm Miller came on in relief in the 6th and gave up a walk. An error and a single, loaded the bases with no outs. A force out, a pop up and a strikeout got Miller out of the jam.
