Lady Rams take Paris

The Shelbyville Lady Rams took Paris as were gaining more experience during the early part of the season. After getting beaten 8-1 by Vandalia, Shelby knocked off Paris, 5-4. A big dog came to town after that. Charleston won, 8-1. Shelby traveled to T’town and lost again, 8-1.

Ram #1 Mykennah Allen and #2 Kayla Lee scored the top wins for Shelby against Paris. Allen beat Quinn Shockley, 6-3, 6-0 and Lee beat Meredith Pencek, 6-2, 6-1. Rachel West, playing #4, also won in two sets, 6-3 and a tie-break, 7-5. Julia Bolinger won #5 singles, 6-3, 6-4.

Paris won two singles matches and going into doubles, Shelby was up 4-2. Allen and Halbrook teamed up for a 6-3, 6-2 doubles win to clinch the match. It was good they did. #2 doubles lost 0-6, 1-6 and #3 doubles had a 6-0, startm but then lost 4-6, 3-7 to crowd the Rams.

Even though the Lady Rams lost three matches by a score of 8-1, in each of those matches someone stepped up to avoid a shutout.

Against Vandalia, Kayla Lee (#3) won a pro set, 11-9, and Julia Bolinger (#6) took a pro set to 12-10, before losing. Against Charleston, Bolinger (#6) took the only Shelby win, 6-4, 6-4.

Against Teutopolis, Kaitlyn Hopper, playing #6 singles, gutted out a 3-set, tie-break win. She won 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 to avoid the Shelby goose egg. Kayla Lee, playing 31 singles, almost did the same thing. In battle royal, Lee and Sidney Brumleve played three close sets. Brumleve won the first set, 9-7. Lee won the second set, 6-2. The third set went to 11-9, in favor of Brumleve.

Shelbyville Tennis (1-3) was to host St. Teresa on Tuesday, then travel to Mt. Zion on Thursday and the Mattoon Invite on Saturday.
