SHELBYVILLE, IL. —
The Shelbyville Lady Rams have been on a roll, but were unable to get much offense against OVC rival Maroa and took a rare loss on Thursday, 4-2.
Not only were the Rams beaten, but the Maroa pitcher, Gabbi Clifton pitched even with Arkansas-bound Grace Moll. Moll allowed four runs ( 1 ER) on five hits with three walks, while striking out ten. Clifton allowed just two runs on six hits and four walks, while striking out 12. The Ram defense was also out-played. Maroa committed no errors, while the Rams booted two balls.
Shelbyville struggled to hit against Argenta on Monday, but eventually won, 5-1. They struggled at the plate again against Maroa. Five of the six Ram hits came from two batters. Lead-off batter Jensen Cloe went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Moll went 2-for-2 with a double and a triple and a sacrifice. But, the rest of the Rams didn't step up.
The Ram errors also cost them a chance to get a close win. Shelbyville gave up three unearned runs in a 4-2 loss.
Shelbyville (13-3) and Maroa (13-1) are now tied in the conference at 6-1.
