---- — Shelbyville hosted St. Anthony for a dual track meet on Tuesday and had the lead when the deluge came washing out the last half of the events. Shelby boys won 68-14 and the Shelby girls won, 37-30.
The Ram boys dominated their meet, winning all nine of the completed events. They also took 2nd in 6-of-9 events and five 3rd places out of six that were scored. The Lady Rams won just three of the eight events completed, but they captured 7-of-8 2nd places and one 3rd place to tip the scales in their favor.
Mikel Welton swept the weights, winning the shot put with one of his best throws of the season (44-3.5) and also threw 111-4 to win the discus. But that wasn't all the Ram success in the weights. In fact, the Rams swept all three places in the weight events. Bart Kennell was 2nd in the shot (38-8) and Garrett Ferguson was 3rd (36-5). Kennell was also 2nd in the discus (107-11) and Ferguson 3rd in the disc (103-1).
Jake Keown didn't have a baseball game, so he leapt his way to a sweep in the long and triple jumps. Keown went 19-7 in the long jump and 38-0 in thre triple. Kurtis Cameron made it #1, #2 in the triple (32-0) and Devin Peterson took third in the long jump (17-9).
The Rams swept all three places in the high jump. Darin Breeden went 5-10 for 1st, Tyler Hendryx 5-8 for 2nd and Dylan Patch 5-0 for 3rd.
Also scaling heights were Luke Hatfield and Jordan Smith. Hatfield matched his indoor mark of 11-6 in the pole vault and Smith went 7-6 for 2nd.
The Rams swept the two relays that were run. They won the 4x800 (10:02) and the 4x400 relay (51.5).
The distance race that was run in the boys meet was the 3200 and the Rams swept that event, too. Neil Yockey was 1st in 10:07, Alex Matlock was 2nd, going 10:08, and Marcus Skinner was 3rd (10:26).
The girls meet was a lot closer. Sprinter Keeley Buhrmester gave the shot put a go and led Shelby girls to a sweep. Buhrmester heaved the rock 25-0, edging 2nd place teammate Monica Griesemer (24-8) and 3rd place fellow Lady Ram Sadie Gorlaski (24-7). Goralski then beat the field in the discus. She threw 76-2, followed by teammate Abbi Allen, throwing 69-3.
The other event Shelby won was the 4x800 relay (12:02).
In addition to Griesemer and Allen going 2nd weights, Megan Martin was runner-up in both the long jump (13-11) and the triple jump (26-10). Athlete of the Week, Morgan Powers didn't get to her best events, but did place 2nd in the high jump (4-6). Elly Oldham was 2nd in the pole vault (6-6) and the Lady Ram 4x4 relay was 2nd (1:03.41).
