Rams Rout Meridian, A&M

Prior to a return trip to Busch Stadium on Wednesday, the Rams took care of business against Meridian on Monday, 14-3, then against A&M on Tuesday, 8-0.

“Going to Busch Stadium was a good time,” said Ram coach Sam Mehl. We made sure everbody had a good experience and some playing time. It was a positive experience. We were there last year, but hadn't been there for a few years prior. We may take a few years off.”

The Rams played Metro-East Jerseyville, a team that goes to Busch every year and played their starters most of the game.

Sophomore Luke Duckett threw the win on Monday in a 4-square performance, going four innings, allowing on four hits and four walks, while striking out four. He allow three runs (2 earned). Senior Jake Keown threw the winner on Tuesday. He threw a 7-inning, 3-hit shutout, walking just two batters and striking out six.

Against Meridian, the Ram hit crew accumulated 17 hits, including five doubles, with back-to-back 6-run rallies. Eight Rams had multiple hits. Eli Miller was 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs and two RBIs. He reached base all four times, including by error. Keown was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Luke Hatfield was 2-for-2 with back-to-back doubles, a run and 2 RBIs.

Nate Standerfer was 2-for-3 with two runs and 2 RBIs.

Neil Yockey was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Tyler Hendryx was 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Luke McConnell was 3-for-4 with a double, a run, and 3 RBIs.

Shelby scored six runs in the 2nd with four hits, two Meridian errors and a walk. They scored six runs again in the 3rd on six hits and an error.
