At home on Tuesday, Shelby shut down Central A&M. Keown (4-0) remained perfect on the mound this season. He retired six Raiders by strikeout and two more on the field. He and the Ram defense never allowed more than one base runner in any inning and retired A&M in order in two of the innings.
Shelbyville slugger Luke Hatfield launched back-to-back home runs breaking open a close game in the 5th.
Shelby led 1-0 in the 5th, when Miller was hit by a pitch and Keown drew a walk. Hatfield then cranked a 3-run shot, 4-0 Rams. In the 6th, McConnell, Caleb Eloe, and Miller singled, loading the bases. With two outs, Hatfield hammered a grand slam for his 9th homer of the season and an 8-0 Ram lead.
A&M came to bat in the 7th. After a walk, a fly out to McConnell in left field, Keown's sixth strikeout and a ground out, Yockey to Standerfer ended the game.
A&M only had two players hit safely. Garner was 1-for-2 with a double and Daily Union Athlete of the Week Curtis Ramsey was 2-for-3 with a double. Garner took the loss, getting chased in the 6-run 2nd inning.
