---- — They did it differently, but on Monday and Tuesday the Ram JV picked up two conference wins.

The Ram JV baseball team beat Meridian on Monday, 2-1, then beat A&M on Tuesday, 22-6.

“Tyler Hendryx threw well and the defense had his back,” said Ram coach Ryan Scott. “

Hendryx threw a 1-hitter and struck out 10 batters in four innings. Hendryx walked four, but didn’t allow a hit until the 4th inning. He struck out three batters in each inning except the 1st. The only run he allowed came off a single and an error.

Shelbyville went down in order the first two innings, but cashed in during the 3rd inning. With one out, Tyler Nichols singled and stole 2nd. With two outs, Garrett Brachbill hit an RBI single. Hendryx put the ball in play and reached on an error. Brachbill scored, 2-0 Rams.

Hendryx rang up the first two batters in the Meridian 4th, but then gave up a single. The runner stole 3rd and then scored on a 2-out error. The Rams had three base runners in the 4th, but a double play and a strikeout kept them from getting insurance runs.

Tuesday was a horse of a different color, as the Rams pounded out 17 hits.

“We clobbered the ball,” Coach Scott said.

Five Rams had multiple hits and five Rams scored 3 or 4 times.

Sheldon Meyer recorded 14 strikeouts in five innings. The only out he didn’t make was a line out to Bart Kennell at 1st in the 1st inning. It was a wild game. A&M committed six errors and the Rams three. Meyer walked eight, but KO’d 14. A&M scored six runs, but that was dwarfed by the Ram onslaught.

Garrett Brachbill started the attack with a lead-off double. With one out, Lucas Duckett reached on a dropped 3rd strike. Bart Kennell and Quinton Reedy reached on errors and Zach Williams hit a sac fly. Brachbill and Duckett scored.

A&M knotted the score in the top of the 3rd. A lead-off walk was followed by Meyer ringing up the next two batters, but a walk, a double, a walk and a single made it 2-2.

The tie didn’t last. In the bottom of 3rd, the Rams came back with three runs. Meyer led off with a single and got to 2nd on an error. He stole 3rd and Kennell smacked a double. Williams reached on an error and stole 2nd. Kennell scored. With two outs, Ryan Stenger singled a run in.

Meyer rang up three batters in the 4th, but the other two reached on an error and a single. Both scored to make it a 1-run ball game, 5-4. The bottom of the 4th was a watershed as the Rams erupted for six runs.

Tyler Nichols was hut by a pitch to lead off the inning. Brachbill and Meyer had consecutive hits. Lucas Duckett drew a walk and Kennell reached on an error. Zach Williams walked and Jordan Smith smacked a double. With two outs, Josh Foster reached on an error and Durbin drew a walk and the Rams went up, 11-4.

A walk, an error and another walk put the first three A&M batters on in the 5th. The Rams threw two strikeouts, but a single, made it 11-6. It still wouldn’t be enough for A&M to come back.

The bottom of the 5th was a burial of A&M. Sixteen Rams came to the plate and 11 of them scored. Meyer singled, Duckett walked and Kennell hit a 2-run double. Williams reached, putting the first five Ram batters on base. With two outs, Connor White hit a 2-run double. Durbin singled, followed by singles from Brachbill and Meyer. Duckett walked and Kennell singled. Williams reached on an error and Smith and Stenger hit back-to-back singles, making it 22-6.
