W/SS Erupts v. St. Elmo

Windsor/Stew-Stras jr. high co-op softball hosted St. Elmo on Thursday and 10-runned them in six innings, 14-4.

Windsor/Stew-Stras drew first blood in the bottom of the 1st. That held up until the top of the 3rd when St. Elmo had a 3-run rally that challenged W/SS. That St. Elmo 2-run lead held up until the bottom of the 4th.

W/SS had a 2-run spurt that knotted the score at 3-3, heading into the 5th. W/SS erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the 5th and vaulted ahead of St. Elmo, 12-3.

St. Elmo got a run back, to trim the margin to eight runs, 12-4. But, W/SS was ready to call a halt to the game. So, in the bottom of the 6th, W/SS came up with two runs to pull the trigger on the 10-run rule and end the game.

Megan Schlechte came in to pitch the 5th and 6th and got the win. She allowed just two hits and one run, walking no one and striking out six in two innings. Calla Roney started the game and gave up one earned run in St. Elmo’s 3-run 3rd. She only gave up two hits, but walked six, while striking out a dozen.

Roney and Schlechte made all the outs against St. Elmo on strikeouts. Roney KO’d 12 in four innings, the max. Schlechte rang up six in two innings, the max.

Schlechte also led at the plate. She had a two hits, a single and a double, scored three runs and drove in four runs. Six other W/SS batters hit safely. Taylor Renfro and Lexi Vonderheide drove in two runs each, while Carson Cole and Nikki Trussell each scored twice.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was to play in the Beecher City Tourney on Saturday, then return to Beecher City for a regular season contest on Tuesday.
