Series: Shelby Collegiate Athletes
Over the last few years, a pair of Shelby Area athletes earned spots on the Eastern Illinois University women's track team and spent four years sparking the Panthers.
Jaimee Roy of Neoga, an IHSA state champ, and Paige Biehler of Shelbyville, an IHSA state runner-up, both have all-time Top 10 marks in EIU history.
In high school, Roy competed for Neoga High School and qualified for the IHSA Class A State Meet in four events as a senior. Roy was the Class A State Champion in long jump at 19-4. She placed third in triple jump with distance of 37-10. She also earned a state berth in 100 dash and 4x200 meter relay. She tied for 1st in 100 dash at Shelbyville Sectional.
She placed 6th in long jump and 5th in triple jump at the 2008 IHSA Class 1A State Meet as a sophomore, placed 3rd in IHSA Class 1A triple jump and 6th in long jump.
As a freshman at EIU, Roy competed in 2010 indoor and outdoor track in jumps. Roy was 4th at the indoor OVC Championships with a season best indoor long jump mark of 18-8. That distance ranks 9th on the EIU career list.
During outdoor season Roy long jumped 19-9.5 at the SIUE Gateway Meet which ranked 2nd on the EIU career list. Roy earned a trip to the NCAA Regional where she placed 47th with a mark of 17-1.25. Roy competed in the long jump at the USA Track & Field Junior National Championships placing 14th.
As a sophomore, Roy competed in the 2011 indoor and outdoor track. She was a 3rd place finisher at the OVC Championships in both the long jump and triple jump. She had a season best mark of 37-8 in the triple jump. Her time ranks 9th on EIU career list. Roy competed in long jump and triple jump during the outdoor season. She was 3rd in the long jump at the OVC Championships. Her season best long jump was 18-3 at the Stan Lyons Invite.
