Kassie Edwards-Wilson won the first race 3 months ago and has held the points lead since at Coles County Raceway. She added to her lead on Saturday.
Kassie driving her 99 Camaro from Charleston won again, extending her points lead to 27 points, beating rookie Alec Smith of Humboldt, IL in his 13 Camaro. Alec has burst onto the Drag Racing Scene at CCD winning his 1st race in Novice Street, advancing to Sportsmen the next week, going rounds to being in this weeks final.
Kelly Edwards of Charleston driving her 98 Camaro “Ben Newton” tribute car was the sole semi-finalist in Sportsmen and won Powder Puff, beating Katie Beason of Mattoon, IL in her 13 Camaro.
In Super Pro it was best friends Jim Dronenburg and Vic Seeley duke it out to the final round. Jim of Odell, IL in his 70 Nova beat Vic of Lerna, IL in his 74 Camaro by a .002 margin of victory or about 2 inches.
In Pro, Terry Willard of Mattoon, IL driving a 80 Camaro marched through the field beating Jesse Brant of Mattoon, IL in his 87 Cutlass.
The Hoch Street Radial Class saw current points leader Jeff Young of Sidell, IL in his 70 Nova beating Lloyd McVey of Fithian in his 64 Savoy.
Novice Street saw Jerry Decker of Sullivan in his 87 Camaro taking the win as his opponent broke.
The points battles continue to heat up as racers vie for 32 spots on the Summit Racing Series NHRA Division 3 Bracket Finals at Indianapolis Raceway Park. There are only four races left (17, 18, 24 & 25 Aug) before team selection. This weekend is sure to ramp up the excitement as some of the fastest Hot Rods from several surrounding states come to Coles County Dragway USA to compete for the JEGS Super Quick Title and the $3500 purse.
