SHELBYVILLE, IL. — The Shelbyville 8th grade boys took on Maroa, Thursday, but early runs by Maroa put them in a hole and the Rams took a loss, 42-26.

Keaton Plummer scored twice and Dillon Birch once. But Maroa had three players with balanced scoring around ten points and they got going early. Two of them scored twice and the other once, but also made three free throws.

Already trailing by eight to start the 2nd, the  Rams got hit hard again by a 10-4 Maroa run. Birch knocked down a 3-pointer and Justin Hopper made a free throw, but that was it. Maroa got two more scores from one of their leaders, two scores from another player and a bucket from another of their leaders. Maroa led by 14 at the break, 24-10.

In the 2nd hald the Rams had a lot of ground to make up, but all they could do was match Maroa's output. Jackson Gambrill got on the board with the only Ram basket, while Birch made two free throws and Keaton Plummer had a pair at the line.

Still down by 14 in the 4th, Shelby had their best offensive period, but Maroa equaled it. Five Rams scored in the 4th. Hunter Plummer, Lyle Jefson, and Grant Sims finally got on the board with solo twos. Keaton Plummer scored again and so did Gambrill.

The Rams and Maroa made the same number of free throws, but Maroa had seven more field goals to control the floor game.
