Stew-Stras, Windsor Split

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Windsor and Stew-Stras Jr. High basketball went toe-to-toe on Thursday and they ended up splitting. Stew-Stras won the 7th grade game, 32-24, but Windsor won the 8th grade game, 33-28.

Stew-Stras opened up the 7th game with a dominant 12-0 run. That set the tone. They followed with a 9-6 run in the 2nd to lead by 15 points at the break, 21-6. The 3rd was more of the same withan 11-4 Stew-Stras run.

Heading into the final frame, Stew-Stras was up by 22, 32-10.  They called off the dogs and Windsor went to town making up for lost ground with  14-0 run.

Kramer led the balanced Stew-Stras scoring with 10 points, followed by Quast and Koester with seven, each, and Thies with six. Rawlings led Windsor with eight, followed by Bennett with six.

While the Windsor 7th had to have a late run to make the game look closer than it was, the 8th grade game was close throughout. Windsor led by one after one, by two after two, by two after three and finally pushed the lead to as much as five down the stretch.

Windsor led 6-5, before both teams upped their offense in the 2nd. Windsor led 16-14 at the break. The 3rd was nobody's advantage as they matched each other's scoring. The score was 24-22 to start the final 6:00. Windsor was able to stiff-arm any Stew-Stras push down the stretch, and held the to just six points in 6:00. That helped Windsor extend their lead at the buzzer.  

Moschenrose led all scorers with 19 points, scoring seven times from the floor and  five times from the line. Hutchinson led Windsor with 15 points, dialing in twice from long distance and making three foul shots.

Armes and Gilbert were the difference-makers for Windsor in the 8th game. Armed scored eight points and Gilbert five. The contirbution from other Stew-Stras' players were solo scores or a few free throws.
