Alissa Hudson Signs For Volleyball

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — After striking a vein of gold last year at Shelbyville, Kaskaskia College came back for more and signed Alissa Hudson to play for the Blue Angels.

Hudson, a starting right side/outside hitter for the Shelbyville Lady Ram volleyball team the last two years is ready to step in a fill a key spot for Kaskaskia Coach Kim Rahar. Rahar signed Hudson’s teammate, middle-hitter Kelsey Stauder, last year.

“After talking with Kelsey we brought Alissa in for a try out and worked her out,” Coach Rahar said. “We saw her play and we liked what we saw. We are losing six players from last year’s team and we need people to step right in. Her blocking stood out from the right side. We are going to need her  help take control of the front row.”

Hudson has steadily improved since becoming a started for the Lady Rams. Her junior year, she had 55 kills and 15 blocks, along with 31 assists and 44 digs. Her senior year, Hudson swung for 114 kills and blocked 27 kills, along with 24 assists and 36 digs.

“Having a near 6-footer on the outside, of course, is nice and replacing her on the floor is gonna be huge,” said Ram volleyball coach Lisa Peifer. “Having her on the team was having a leader in practice, a captain, a consistent worker and a positive person. That was huge and she had the respect of her teammates. Alissa will fit in well at Kaskaskia. She’s the kind of kid that can make the adjustment. She is vocal and versatile. She’s coachable and works hard.”

Although she has a former teammate at Kaskaskia, the intrepid Hudson picked Kaskaskia because of what she saw there.

“I like the coach, Hudson said. “Its a nice small campus. It fits me well. It has AG and I want to go to school for AG. I really like the right side and blocking, so this is a good thing. If I have the opportunity to go on and play I will.”
